Boise's Historic North End and Foothills Properties
Boise Idaho's North End contains many of the city's historic older homes and also sought after foothill retreats and is usually defined as the area north of State Street.
The north end has easy access to Camel's Back Park where you can always find a friendly game of volleyball,a picnic table in the shade or a great sledding hill. This is a favorite entrance into the foothills for hiking and biking. Adjacent to this park is 289 acres of Hull's Gulch Reserve. The reserve is home to two trailheads (Grove and Lower Hulls Gulch) that are the starting point to some of the 130 miles of Ridge to Rivers trails in the Boise Foothills.
The Historic North End is known for its tree-lined drives such as Harrison Boulevard, and for its quiet neighborhoods near the downtown area. Although the neighborhood is rife with eclectic architecture, ranging from Queen Anne and Craftsman to Tudor Revival and Modern, it is more substantially a neighborhood of cottages with a healthy mix of multi-family housing. Street after street is lined with homes maintained in the spirit of their original design, complemented by a mature canopy of trees that shades the sidewalks below. It is still considered one of Boise's most desirable places to live.
A concerned, diverse coalition of local residents and community leaders have joined together with some some common-sense planning have managed to preserve the neighborhood's enduring physical beauty and qualities.The area has taken on a unique and attractive lifestyle for many people that grew up in Idaho or have moved to Boise. The American Planning Association (APA)has designated Boise's North End as one of 10 Great Neighborhoods for 2008.
On 13th Street, Hyde Park is home to restaurants and other businesses. The North End also hosts events such as the annual Hyde Park Street Fair.
This area also contains many communities that reside in the foothills of Boise. These upscale communities contain some properties with outstanding views of the downtown area,more spacious lots and the same community minded friendly people Boise is famous for.
The North end Foothills has many opportunities to access the foothill bike trails, Crane Creek Country Club and the only road to the nearest ski resort just a short 16 miles up Bogus Basin Road.
